THE HEADTEACHER'S BLOG - THE BURFORDIAN, ISSUE 15 2023 -2024

This is the Headteacher's Blog which was first featured in issue 15 of The Burfordian, published on Friday5th July 2024.

Burford School Mr Albrighton Headteacher

Burford School is an active place year-round. There is always something going on. At this time of the year, however, it is almost impossible to keep up.

Since the last edition of the Burfordian: the Duke of Edinburgh programme has been in full swing for both bronze and gold; Year 12 have headed out to their work experience; a huge cast of students from the lower school have been in rehearsal for the end of year play; Year 10 students have been hard at work writing up their Geography fieldwork; the Year 13 artists put their work on show in Warwick Hall, at the heart of the town, gaining much praise from members of the community; the Art department was also involved in another show this week for GCSE students in the main hall alongside the technology department; the technology department hosted an event for Year 10 to prepare for GCSE; the senior cricket team played against the MCC; the orchestras continued rehearsals for their end of year extravaganza; leavers from Years 11 and 13 have had their proms; Heads of Years have had their away day with senior leaders to plan for the coming year; the new teachers joining us in September have joined us for a training day; students have visited from partner primaries for their combined concert; partners from the Outdoor Learning Network have explored The Acre and Orchard as part of a discussion about the future of learning in and on the landscape; governors from the finance and curriculum committees have met to discuss the strategy for the school in the coming year; and to top it off we have welcomed the students who will be Year 7 in September for their induction days finishing with the quite brilliant family festival.

This list is not exhaustive and I apologise for anything missed in this brief blog as I know that everyone on the staff has been doing amazing things for all our students. All this alongside planning for the coming year at the same time as preparing their daily teaching. It is always an inspiration to see the industry and creativity of the team and I am grateful to all.

Finally, I want to draw attention to the address made by our special guest, Purusha Gordon, at the Lower School Prize giving held last week. Purusha, a former Burford Student, left everyone awestruck by her achievements.
