On Thursday 22 June, our 1st XI cricket team played the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in its annual fixture. This match is one of the many highlights of our cricketing calendar at Burford.
The MCC batted first and scored a competitive 179-6. Our bowlers were supported by committed fielding with Burford student Louis the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3 wickets. A superb day of cricket, we tried to chase MCC’s imposing total in the face of their high-quality bowling but it ultimately came down to the final over and MCC gained victory on the penultimate ball.
It was fantastic to see Burford student Adam receive the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ Award from the MCC after top scoring with 41. Honourable mentions were also given to his fellow teammates - Abi for her batting performance at the start of the innings and Louis for his batting at the end.
We look forward to next year’s match already and thank the MCC for another fantastic fixture. It was fabulous so many family members and friends of the teams joined us in support. Special mention must also go to Minster Lovell CC for hosting us again this year.
