Congratulations are in order for Year 13 student Liam S who was recently selected as a finalist in Oxford University’s John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition.

Among tens of thousands of entries across eight subjects, Liam was shortlisted for the Economics Prize for his essay titled ‘What would happen if we banned billionaires?’. Liam attended the awards ceremony at the exquisite Sheldonian Theatre last week (16 September 2023).

Reacting to his achievement, Liam commented, ‘I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in such a prestigious competition. I believe the process of writing this essay will aid my application to study economics at university, and the intense research and thinking involved was something I thoroughly enjoyed. My attendance at the Sheldonian Theatre for the award ceremony was a truly eye-opening and fun experience.’
